Getting here

The office is on Indianapolis Boulevard (US 41) in Highland, just north of 45th Street and south of Ridge Road and Wicker Memorial Park. It is a short drive from Munster, Hammond, Griffith and Schererville, and there is a parking lot in front of the offices.

Why “Highland”?

The town takes its name from a sandy ridge that rose above the marshes of the Calumet region. Ridge Road still runs along that high land, and in the 1890s Dutch farmers grew cabbage, onions and tomatoes in its sandy soil. North of town, the Highland Heron Rookery, a city wetland on the Little Calumet River, is named for the great blue herons that nested there.
